We were delighted to see a review, by Michael Witts, of Robyn Rowland’s fine collection, Steep Curve, in the latest edition of The Rochford Street Review.
Steep Curve centres on the two-and-a-half years the poet spent with her centenarian father after her return from Ireland in December 2019. The two live together through the Covid years, sharing the poet’s childhood home, which her father built 65 years before. Her sole caring grows their relationship through physical and emotional challenges, anger, frustration, loss and love. Drawn together in an intimacy few daughters or fathers experience, comfort for the poet lies in a practice she develops of observing daily “one lovely thing.”
Many thanks to Michael for his insightful comments and thoughtful appraisal; and, of course, to Mark Roberts and Linda Adair for all the work that they do in producing this important journal.
