Introducing our new team member

We are very pleased to announce an addition to the 5Islands Press team.  Nancy Joy has joined us as an intern.

Nancy is currently pursuing a masters degree in creative writing, publishing and editing at the University of Melbourne. Her editorial training includes the completion of courses in copy-editing and structural editing; as a writer, she has worked across a range of genres, including fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry.  She self-published her first collection of poems, Dusk and Dawn, in 2021 and is currently working on a second collection that she hopes to complete within the next six months.

Nancy has a keen interest in words, which one might expect in anyone interested in creative writing. Much more rarely, she is also interested in the spaces between them. When we were discussing her internship, Nancy said: “I am fond of understanding the meaning behind the pauses between each sentence and word, which in turn directs me to learn the rules of punctuation.”
