An Outstanding Evening of Poetry

Join us for an outstanding evening of poetry, with readings from three fine poets, followed by discussion of their latest works. There will be wine, nibbles and questions after the reading.
Linda Godfrey, one of Australia’s finest practitioners of the short form, will read from her collection Tannic Skin & Sweet Flesh (5Islands Press, 2026), which charts the shifting terrain of culture, place, and inheritance: a mosaic of the alluring, haunting, beautiful, and bizarre. Fasten your seatbelt—you will not return untouched.
Jonathan Cant— writer, poet, educator, and musician—will exhilarate you with a selection from Finding Pan. Finding Pan, also out this year from 5Islands Press, is a journey of discovery: verbal, thematic, tonal and formal. Words are rarely left as he finds them, but walked around and re-applied, taken apart and reconstructed, hidden parts of them revealed. Jonathan Cant’s debut collection is probing, skilful, eclectic and intelligent—and a great deal of fun.
Shady Cosgrove, writer, poet and professor of Creative Writing at the University of Wollongong, will read from her collection of prose poems, Flight (Gazebo Books, 2024), in which she explores the linked tensions of flight and longing: the immigrant caught on the other side of the world; the transformation of a home; the reckoning of motherhood. Often otherworldly, frequently affirming, and sometimes heartbreaking, these poems offer small meditations — circling overhead, descending into daily life.
Following the readings, the three will be joined in conversation by Peter Frankis, poet and chair of the South Coast Writers Centre. Peter’s chapbook, “Shorely”, was published by Ginninderra Press and his poems have appeared Australian and international literary journals and anthologies.
