About the author
MAREE REEDMAN was born in Brisbane and has one husband,
two cockatiels, and five ukuleles. She really only plays one of them,
which happens to be the most expensive. She lives on Quandamooka
country and is a psychologist. When she worked at Woodford
prison, she wrote her first poem about wagtails dancing on
barbed wire.
She loves to busk either solo, or with her guitarist friend Dean.
Her songs have won places in the Sunshine Coast and Melbourne
Ukulele and Australian Songwriting competitions. For some reason,
she covered one hundred songs in one hundred days in 2020 and
posted them on YouTube.
In 2024, she won the Grieve Project In Memorium: Antonia
Buono Award for the poem “Bruce Dances with His Mother.”
In 2025, she was shortlisted in the Calanthe Collective Prize for
Unpublished Poetry. She admits to being a narrative addict.
